"December 4, 1942, Hanukkah at Westerbork. As Oma Betje's post card says, she was very much looking forward to sharing the package she had received from Papa with the children of the camp. Before she had mailed us the post card she did not know her destiny--not until 11 o’clock. Before lunch she was rushed onto the depressing train. The Red Cross reported that Oma Betje was murdered in Auschwitz December 4, 1942. She would not be at the first day of Hanukkah at Camp Westerbork." excerpt from a child underground
Thousands of pairs of eye glasses that had been removed from victims before their deaths.
